Abstracts

Working in abstraction is a continual challenge and a fascination. Although I gravitate toward organic shapes, I often look toward something concrete or representational – a garden, a landscape, a figure – as a base from which I can then flow and take painterly liberties. Most of my abstractions tend to be on a smaller scale, though some call out for larger canvases. Some are influenced by topics or currents of the day. Others are mediations on mood. For the most part, they involve experimenting with color, patterns and marks.
